Force of Nature is a multi-surface household cleanser that disinfects and sanitizes everything with no harsh or toxic chemicals. Unlike normal cleaning solutions that come in single-use spray bottles, Force of Nature comes with a small plug-in appliance that converts salt, vinegar, and water into an EPA-approved cleaning spray, with minimal impact on the environment.
Highlights: Force of Nature can be used on any hard or soft surface, including stone, glass, stainless steel, tile, plastic, wood, porcelain, rugs, hands, baby toys, and paws. It kills 99.9% of bacteria, molds, mildew, and viruses, including SARS-CoV2 (the cause of Covid-19), Salmonella, STAPH, MRSA, and Influenza A. Force of Nature can also be used to deodorize clothing and shoes. It does not need to be wiped down or rinsed off.
The Force of Nature system includes a small base, electrolyzer bottle, activator capsules, and a reusable spray bottle. Brewing the cleaner takes less than ten minutes, and the batch stays effective for up to two weeks. To concoct the cleaner, you fill the bottle with tap water, squirt in one activator capsule, and set the bottle on the base for a few minutes. The countdown timer tells how long activation will take. When the timer is done, pour the cleaner into the spray bottle and go about your merry cleaning business. The liquid has a neutral but fresh smell, a natural byproduct of the process; it is free of fragrances, dyes, bleach, alcohol, and preservatives. It is allergen-free and is not tested on animals.
Some might find it odd to use a system that makes you wait for your cleaner, but with a tiny bit of forethought, you'll never have to wait. When you notice that you're getting toward the bottom of your spray bottle, brew the next batch and recycle the tiny plastic capsule. By the time you spray the last few sprays, you'll be able to refill the bottle right away. And while you might slip up and have to wait 10 minutes to brew a batch, you will never again run out of household cleaner. Nor will you have to stand in line at a store and worry that anti-bacterial wipes or sprays won't be in stock if a global pandemic suddenly strikes.
In terms of cost, Force of Nature comes out way ahead of the competition, too, at 7 cents/oz. for refills. When purchasing the starter set, the cost reaches 15 cents/oz., but that still beats both Mrs. Meyers and Blueland (25 cents/oz. and 22 cents/oz. respectively), neither of which kills pathogens and both of which have a strong lingering scent.
Drawbacks but not Dealbreakers: The first spray bottle that came with our set lasted only a year. We purchased a $1.00 replacement bottle. In the ten years since we started using Force of Nature, they may have upgraded the spray bottles, but even if yours only lasts a year, it is easy and inexpensive to replace this component and continue using the system.
There are two applications where Force of Nature isn’t our go-to. When we are tackling seriously stubborn grease on our range top or hood, we use Super Clean Foaming Multi-Surface All Purpose Cleaner Degreaser Spray (53 cents/oz.). On our used-to-be-sealed-stone in the shower we use Goo Gone Grout & Tile Cleaner (59 cents/oz.) or Stain Solver Oxygen Bleach Cleaner (3 cents/oz plus a lot of elbow grease)
Ideal for: People who clean things and simultaneously care about the earth and their finances.
